CHOCOLATE, CAKES, AND GOODIES ... WHAT DO WE DO KNOW?

Well friends,

It is now a week or so after the new year and many of us are starting it with excess baggage. No, I am not talking about holiday family dramas, or all the presents we have to store in our already loaded closets. I am talking about those pesky pounds we gained during the holidays.

I know, your resolution is to go to the gym, watch every morsel you put in your mouth, and make healthier choices. Be honest, how many of you still have a box or two of candy that you just can't throw out OR those DELICIOUS cookies you baked that are still calling to you in the middle of the night?

I am not hear to preach or make you feel bad, I just want to help you through this most fragile time of year. First, pack up those goodies and get them off your counters and out of sight. When you REALLY crave ONE, have it. I am guilty of it too. I had worked SO hard this year taking off tons of weight. I, of course, put on five pounds over the holidays. We all do. It's a fact of life. BUT, I did lose it by putting away the sweets and jumping right back into my daily routine IMMEDIATELY.

It's not too late. You can do it too. Remember out of sight, out of mind. One good thing about chocolate... besides it's awesome taste... it doesn't go bad. Save it... Hide it in a closet and don't think about it. Valentines Day is a month away. Take it out then. Treat yourself. By that point you will have lost those few pounds and you DESERVE that treat. Love yourself enough to do the very best for you.

I know how hard it is. Believe me. It's an everyday battle for me too. But I keep it under control by daily exercise and eating right. And yes, have A bite of something wonderful. That's all we really need to feel satisfied.

Lately my new craving is a latte. They can be harmless if you get a fat-free one. Sprinkle some cinnamon and natural stevia on top and it tastes like desert. REALLY. I LOVE THEM! So run to your nearest Starbucks and order the Venti no-fat latte. You will hate me for turning you into addict. LOL. At four bucks a pop, it is expensive, but, again, we are worth it. Besides the caffeine does help with our writing. Who can't use an extra boost in the afternoon? Right?

On Wednesdays we need a fun post. Right? It gets us through the rest of the week.

I hope you are all enjoying this lovely burst of warm weather in the mid-west. It was like spring yesterday and today is supposed to be a repeat. YAY!

Have a great one everybody.

Another thing to remember is often when we feel hungry, we are actually thirsty - go drink a bottle of water first and then see you feel.
Goodies are off the counter - out of sight, out of mind!

I'm thrilled to say that I am over 30 lbs lighter than I was last year at this time. And why are they called goodies? They should be called baddies.

I am so glad I didn't fall into my usual holiday sow out. I've actually lost weight this season - now all I need to do is get on an exercise program.

Instead of eating a Crispy Creme doughnut today, I ate a banana. I'm making healthy food choices already.

Alex has a great idea. A bottle of water will help our fluid intake, while filling our stomach, too. When we run out of chocolates and cokes, try to put off buying more for a day, then two, then three, try for a week without either. It's a start, right? Happy New Year, Roland

I'm so glad your posting on this again. I always love your advice on this even though I am not very good at following it. ;) I did promise myself (I don't make resolutions) that I was going to eat better- add more fresh vegetables to my diet... and drink all my water. But it's one step at a time for me... baby steps or I won't follow through at all. And it helps so much reading your posts on eating better- and taking care of yourself. I am all for that attitude which you are so great reminding us about --doing what our bodies need because we love ourselves and take care of ourselves. We're (and when I say "we" I mean "I") not always good at remembering that we are indeed loving ourselves when we give ourselves good healthy food & exercise as well as the occasional treat. Usually it's just guilt if we've committed to taking off those pounds and we give in to temptation. So thanks for this post!

And... thanks so much for your response on my blog yesterday. As always, encouraging and complimentary. You brighten my day whenever you stop by!

I'm putting the cookies back in the freezer that I yanked out this morning. The freezer is (usually) a good place to store goodies for a later date, too. Except in my case. I apparently have the patience to wait out the thaw time :-)

I volunteer to kindly accept all the put away candy and chocolate for safe keeping in my vault (and under vault I mean my belly off course) :)

Thankfully, I'm not a fan of chocolate, or latte's. I take all the chocolate I get to the office and snigger as it disappears.

Their revenge is to gift me with Ruffles chips and Hostess cherry pie. And Red Vines. Who could resist?

I've been hitting the Eliptical machine this week though. I'm no exercise guru like you Michael; but I'm on it anywhere between 12 - 20 minutes, depending on when my ankles are so numb I worry about falling off. Yay me :)

But I'm so glad to see a fitness obsessive not spouting that you must not ever hit the sugar. Moderation is my theory, not depravitation. And I've the poundage to prove my opinion, lol.

Have a wonderful weekend Dude.
