BACK TO THE DANK OF WINTER...

HI, ALL,

Well I just stepped back into my toasty condo after two weeks in springtime. South and Central Florida was a dream, but now I have woken up in the Ides of March and six inches of newly fallen snow.

I amazes me that only six short hours ago I was walking on a sandy beach in Fort Lauderdale at 85 degrees with the coconut palms swaying. Now stepping off the bus a sharp, frigid wind stung my eyes and checks at seventeen degrees. SO ironic isn't it?

As we all know today is the first Wednesday of the month and we IWSGers hold this day very special indeed. It's a day we can voice our insecurities and lend support to others who really need it. As most of you know this past month I had noticed complications from my Lasik surgery done in December. I needed to fly back to Florida to have it taken care of pronto.

My insecurities about my sight were explosive... what if...? You get the picture. Thankfully I was checked yesterday and all seem fine for now. I still need to pray and keep positive that the cells won't grow back. It's still too early to tell. So I'm not out of the danger zone yet.

Sadly my writing and blogging time must be minimal. Taxing my eyes now would not be a good thing. I am still hoping to do A-Z, but I decided to give myself at least another week before I commit to it. I KNOW you all understand. My hearts says YES!YES!YES! But my eyes are singing a different tune altogether. SO with high hopes, I'll be asking for submissions next week.

These past few months also plagued me with a MAJOR rewrite of my second novel.  I pounded away at it for over two months and now I am finally on the last TWEAK... At least I hope so. Waiting for my editor to send me back the last fifty or so pages. It was taxing for sure, but I'm surprised how much I like he newer version.

So THAT insecurity is laid to rest.  March/April will be a very stressful month for me. This will be the first March/April in four years that I haven't spent in Florida. I know the rain and very chilly weather here in Chicago will get to me.  I've always hated March even when I kid growing up in New York City.

But I WILL remember on those specific days the warm sunshine kissing my face as the birds chipped merrily in swaying palm trees.

Please don't forget to drop by Alex's blog for the complete list of entries AND the new IWSG Website!

Have a GREAT day/evening everyone!

Glad you have returned safe and sound. Flying across country is weird, isn't it? Going from one extreme to another.
Take another week to decide on the Challenge. There's still time.

Glad your eyes are getting better. Definitely don't tax your eyes on blogs.

That's great you're getting so much writing done.

Look after your eyes before everything. Pity you had to come back to the cold right now. Wishing you speedy recovery.

I am glad you made it home okay... even if home is freezing cold.

I will add you to my prayer list. We don't want those cells returning!!!!

I hope that A to Z works out for you. If not, there is next year. And it gets here sooo fast. Feels like we just did A to Z, doesn't it????

Not sure how long you need to use drops Michael, but have you looked into sourcing through Canada, believe it's much cheaper. Well.ca is one I have used - although not for drugs.

Hi I'm new to IWSG. Sorry about the trouble with your eyes. What a scary thing for a writer. Hearing about your weather is mind boggling. I'm in Florida now Orlando area temps in the upper 60's. I know when I lived in Texas I did that went from warm Florida weather to ice in Texas it was rather surreal. Good luck on your new book.

Sending a little prayer your way for your eyes. Best of luck.

Great to hear your eyes are okay for now. Here's hoping and praying they'll behave themselves now. Don't overdo it!!!

Rest your eyes. That's much more important.

I envy you your visit to sunny Florida - I haven't been in a few years :(

And you must take care of your eyes!

My part of Florida is back to cold and rainy. It's nasty out, but we don't have snow! I'm glad you enjoyed your trip.

Rest those eyes. A to Z would be fun, but not at the cost of your health or eyes! May your eyes continue to improve. I had my stitches out yesterday. Ouch! I gave them the troop movements but the doctor kept on hurting me anyway! :-)

I'm glad you got the "all is well" with your eyes for now. I can't imagine how frightening those what ifs must have been. Take care and get the rest you need, Michael. Hugs and best wishes to you!

Glad you got the eyes all straightened out. That would scary. Sorry you won't be in Florida in during the northern bleak months. The lack of sunshine and dreary is hard on the spirit. Take care of yourself Michael.

Glad there's no immediate threat to your eyes - definitely take care of them and give them all the needed time to heal!! We got another 4 inches today and the snow banks are still 4 feet high at least so you're not alone :)

Oh, Michael, sounds like Florida is definitely the place for you to find your happy. I've heard 50's predicted for next week around here so...maybe spring will stick??

Praying for you and for those cells to stay away!

Gosh, Michael. Take care. I had the same surgery four years ago. Luckily, I've had no complications. I'll definitely keep you in my thoughts and prayers. ((hugs))

So pleased you are on the road to recovery.

What a shock - sun and surf and then snow. I think another holiday is needed. Soon!

Health comes first! Glad you're feeling better and back to your home, even if it is a tad colder than Florida! Be well.

Hi Michael - as Lee says: Health comes first .. particularly eyes - so I'd rest up and really rest up .. you could do your A-Z postings later on as a sort of private A-Z -- we'd all understand and in some ways would give us time to dwell on the posts and the authors ...

But just look after yourself - you've got a lot going on and the stress of blogging over and above your writing might be better left on the table ...

All the best for the coming months .. cheers Hilary

While I will miss your posts, I believe you need to rest and heal. And it's okay that you're not writing and creating right now. You'll get back to it, my friend. Lots of cyber hugs from me to you.

I know what you mean, Michael. We just got back from two weeks in south Florida, and it's hard to return home. We even have nice weather here, in the 70s today, but that doesn't matter. Hope Chicago gets out of the frozen zone soon! Happy thoughts for your eyes. How important they are, especially for artists and writers!

Eyesight is so crucial to writers. Tom Robbins has huge issues with his eyesight and it has made it so he saves all his screen time for drafting and editing only. Sad. I hope your eyes are healing and that you make it through the last few gasps of winter. I just got back from SoCal, so I feel your pain. Life is so easy in the heat. But, we have fresher air and don't have the drought worries they do.

Where would we be without our eyes, Michael. Please take care. Put everything aside but the very necessities. I do hope there's no complications. Hmm. Still snow. When will winter ever end? We just entered Autumn. Absolutely delicious weather here at last.

Dear Michael,
Take care of your eyes. Learn to say 'no' for the sake of your health.

We just recently found out that my daughter, Elisabet is allergic to cat-fur and could not breath in my apartment with six cats. So I have already sold four cats and Elisabet has moved to her father's where there are no cats. My son Erik is sad about letting the cats go. But we don't want Elisabet to develop asthma.

Best wishes,
Anna

Sorry that I've been away from the blogging so long that I didn't see your eye issues. I'm hoping by now they have all cleared up. Spring might be dreary in the Midwest, but it still holds hope - remember that. :)
