Alexia and Colene are hosting a Luck of the Irish, St. Patty's Day blogfest.... How fun is that? Well, let me tell you. Write a flash fiction piece of about 200ish ( mines more ish than 200) fiction about this magical day. Don't forget to hop over to Alexia or Colene's blogs for all the entries.
And that my friends was my first St, Paddy’s Day in NYC. One I will never forget ... and neither will you. I hope you enjoyed my entry.
In my freshman year, I worked my first internship at the NY Public Library. My excitement built as I climbed toward the proud lions, watching me with their intelligent eyes.
The vast entry echoed each one of my steps. In a whisper the librarian informed me where to go for my assignment.
Elevating down to the basement level, a whole other life existed in the bowels of this marble fortress. I heard a note of laughter. A woman with iron curls greeted me.
“I’m Ruth. Welcome to the fascinating world of the picture gallery? How cute are you?”
Blushing, I introduced myself.
“Girls, gather round and meet our new victim: Michael from SVA?” Several middle-aged woman waved to me from various desks.
Ruth smiled and caught my eye. “It’s St. Paddy’s Day, and you’re in for a real eye-opening experience.” She stepped over to a desk and beckoned me.
I raised my brow and joined her. She demonstrated the no-muss, no-fuss way to mount a picture.
I took my seat and stared at the two foot stack. This is an art internship?
Bagpipe music filtered through the half-open windows two stories above me. Of course. The parade marches right past here.
Halfway through my stack, shadows brokeup the light. Ruth shrieks, “Son of a bitch!” as liquid streams from the window.
Two or three more golden showers flood her desk. “Drunken fools!” Ruth bellows.
All our eyes are on Ruth as she waddles to get a Twenty foot poker. “I’ll knock you dicks off if you don’t get the hell out of here!” She rammed the pole through the center window, making contact. A husky male voice hollers in pain.
“Who’s next? I’m not picky ...”
And that my friends was my first St, Paddy’s Day in NYC. One I will never forget ... and neither will you. I hope you enjoyed my entry.
It was definitely a unique experience!
