Hi All.
Hope everyone is enjoying their summer!
As we all know it's the first Wednesday of the month and it's time for another IWSG post. Thanks to all the endeavors of the founder Alex Cavanaugh and his staff, we all have one day a month to express our anxieties over writing. With the support of this community we are priveldged to receive emotional support and advice. What a wonderful way to spend our Wednesdays! If you would like to join, please sign up at Alex's blog here.
This month wasn't the best for writing. I am still having difficulties pludging into the remainder of my present WIP. I did manage a few pages, but that isn't nearly enough. However, I decided to read some new books instead. It has helped tremedously. This was advice given to me from my last post, and it has stirred my craving for writing again. Hopefully this will get me out of my slump.
One of my favorite reads was Tara Tyler's third book in her BEAST series: Windy Hollow. For all of you fantasy lovers out there, this is a series you will quite enjoy! Windy Hollow is a wonderful story on its own, but if you have the chance to read the first two book along with this one, you will be hooked on this series as I am. I can't wait until book four! Here is the amazon link for you convenience. Link.
So, if you are experiencing a slump in your writing, try reading a few books to get your juices flowing.
Well, that is all for now. Have a wonderful month and I'll see in you September!
Hope everyone is enjoying their summer!

I've been reading and writing and it has helped!
ReplyDeleteIt does... Thanks.
DeleteHope you get writing again soon Michael. It must be very frustrating to suffer that "dead" feeling when you can't write.
ReplyDeleteThanks Jo...me, too.
DeleteNow you are ready to write again.
ReplyDeleteI hope so, L. Diane...
DeleteYup, that's what I'm trying to do to. Read, it gets me excited about writing.
ReplyDeleteGood luck, Holly. Hope it works soon!
DeleteHi Michael, even I read a lot when I get into a writing slump. It really helps me. Hope you can work more on your WIP this month.
ReplyDeleteMe, too...thanks Rachna!
DeleteI usually do other creative things when I'm in a writing slump, but that's just me.
ReplyDeleteThat helps for me too, sometimes, Pat. Thanks.
DeleteI'm glad you got inspired. Reading is the best way to get into the writerly mindset.
ReplyDeleteI think so too, Elizabeth.
DeleteReading is definitely inspirational. :-)

It can be if the book is awesome!
DeleteReading when you can't kick start your own writing is a perfect strategy. I know it will set you back on track!
ReplyDeleteThanks Lee!
DeleteGreat advice to read to get back into your writing. It inspires me too.
ReplyDeleteThanks Natalie!
DeleteAre you getting as much rain as we are? When the dry spell ended, it ended with a bang (as in thunder). We have a storm pretty much every day.
ReplyDeleteLove,
Janie
Totally... it's raining every day and sometimes more than once...the storms are bad though with lots of thunder and lighting. It's an active summer here in Orlando.
DeleteMany years before I moved to Florida, we took our children to DisneyWorld at the end of July. I was shocked that it rained every afternoon and wondered why anyone would build a big amusement park in a place where it rains so much. I guess Disney doesn't advertise that you should bring umbrellas, so the masses come for an expensive vacation and get rained on.
DeleteGreat that you've taken the time to read, Michael. It's the way to be inspired. I read far too much if there's such a thing. Hope you get back into MK shortly and run to the finish line.
ReplyDeleteThanks Denise. Just when I'm ready, life gets in the way. I may have to head back to Chicago...
DeleteGood luck with your writing Michael.
ReplyDeleteThanks Donna!
DeleteHi Michael - glad you're reading, while contemplating your writing ... my brain runs all over the place with posts I could write - if I started writing a book I'd never get anywhere ...!! But when you get going again - the time will be right ... cheers Hilary
ReplyDeleteIt seems to work for a lot of writers, Karen. Thanks.
ReplyDeleteThanks Hilary!
ReplyDeleteReading a good book always inspires me!
ReplyDeleteI've been reading a lot since my knee surgery but I'm getting back into my writing.
ReplyDeleteGreat plan! I haven't read that one of Tara's yet but she is a talented writer!
ReplyDeleteI can't emphasize enough how important it is for writers to read. And it's lots of fun too.
ReplyDeleteMichael, I hadn't written anything in the month of July. Instead, I was reading!! And enjoyed several fantastic books.
ReplyDeleteStephen King says writers should always be reading. He carries a book with him everywhere so in down moments waiting somewhere he can read. I'd like to be more like this. I used to but now it's the phone that I take everywhere and pick up in down moments instead of a book.
ReplyDeleteI find reading helps me to get writing. I see Karen't comment above and I have only had a cell phone for a year- but I can easily relate to her comment. I need to put the phone down more for sure. :)
ReplyDeleteGlad you found a book you really enjoyed! Sounds great!
Happy writing!

In baseball season, I am obsessed with watching every pitch of every game the St. Louis Cardinals play. My obsession began when I was 10 years old. With satellite TV, it takes my summer reading time! I need to read more!

Hoping the writing bug gets you back to your WIP, Michael. I'm not tackling mine - or reading And I like that word 'pludging' as it really describes my situation. es, it does exist in the software world.
