And here's a note from Susan...
"To celebrate its release, each old broad featured in this book is blogging about her favorite old broad today, and we invite each of you to tell us a little something about your favorite old broad in the comments. Oh, and if you're still offended by the term broad, I apologize. If you'd prefer, you can tell us about your favorite older woman... how's that? Oh yeah, and one of you who comments about your fave broad will be winning a free copy of our book. Cool, huh? (It really IS a cool book... not only is it filled with some fun poetry, but all proceeds from its sale are going to CARE International.)
Now now, let me introduce you to the other broads, so you can follow their blogs, too. (Like I said, they're ALL terrific.)
NOTE: Technically, Michael isn't a broad. He's a guy. A very nice guy who used that lovely image from Francesco Romoli to create our cover for us, so you could say, as an important member of our team, he's an honorary broad. With hairy legs. (LOL)
Help spread the word on Facebook and Twitter throughout the week to earn bonus points. Also, please indicate where you posted about your favorite old broad, so we're sure to find it. The winner will be announced next Friday, September 12th.
Thanks for helping make this a very broad celebration!
So I hope you all can hop around and visit the OLD BROADS....
I'd like to quickly tell you all about my favorite "Old Broad."
Growing up, my mom's best friend, named Anita, was the coolest. A divorced single mom, she was THE LIFE of every gathering. But it's not her but her mom I'd like to honor today. What a hoot this OLD BROAD was... At over 80, she kept up with us kids in card playing (poker), always had THE BEST BISCOTTI COOKIES EVER on hand, and her smile lit up a room. We all called her Nana. Since my grandmother was long gone, she actually filled her shoes. Think Sophia Pertrillo from Golden Girls... only she had it all going on. No blue hair for this broad. Her white hair gleamed in the current style. Earrings dangling, tailored clothing, and heeled shoes, she totally rocked.
I really miss her. And she's an "Old Broad," I'll never forget!
Have a FANTASTIC weekend everyone!!!!
Sounds like you had the best of the Golden Girls for your honorary Nana! Speaking of honorary, it was Susan who wrote much of the intro for the Broadfest, and she was responsible for calling you "...an honorary old broad. With hairy legs." I loved it, and shared it with everyone. I also love how you crafted the cover for us, Michael! Thanks for your extremely generous contribution!
ReplyDeleteJulie
IT was my pleasure, Julie! It is for such a worthy cause, and we can all use a good laugh and be entertained during these stressful times...
DeleteWhat a fun story about your old "friend." It is wonderful that you are a part of this project. The cover is simply lovely, and pretty much, I guessing, how most old broads feel!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Liza,
DeleteSo happy you like it!
Congratulations everyone! Awesome cover, Michael.
ReplyDeleteAnd my favorite older woman would be my mother. If we drop the age and say mature woman, then definitely my wife.
Thanks Alex!
DeleteCongrats on a wonderful cover, Michael. I think it's your best one yet.
ReplyDeleteAppreciate it! Thanks, L. Diane.
DeleteI love that cover! It's a perfect match for the title. :D Excellent job, Michael!
ReplyDeleteThanks so much, Dianne!
DeleteWonderful cover. It sounds like such a fun project. Made me think of my grandmother, who I also called Nana. She was 92 when she danced the Charleston at my wedding. A 4-ft-tall Japanese lady with a size 6 shoe... she looked at my size 9's and said, "You have big feet. You're a freak!" I miss her.
ReplyDeleteThat is hilarious, Loni! Thanks for the laugh! Gotta love her!
DeleteFunny, I was going to write about Estelle Getty, but I thought of someone I like even more. Love that "Nana" played poker with you kids.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for all that you generously poured into this broad project, Michael. We love you!
Ah, blushing! You're so welcome, Robyn!
DeleteMichael, thank you for designing this wonderful cover for us. I think it is perfect and really appreciate your time and hard work.
ReplyDeleteLoved the story about your "Nana." She sounds like a real treasure! :)
She was, Daisy. And, you're all are so welcome!
DeleteThe cover is adorable.
ReplyDeleteLove,
Janie
Thanks, Janie. We feel very good about it. ;-)
DeleteMichael! Kudos to you on that cover. What a great job. Love the idea of celebrating the Old Broads, so will pop around and see everyone today.
ReplyDeleteGreat! Thanks Lee.... The "Old Broads" will appreciate it!
DeleteAh, ha! Another Nana. I've run across several Nana stories today, and they've all been terrific. (Gee, maybe I should get my grandkids to call me Nana... it has more oomph than Grandma. Oh well, too late now...)
ReplyDeleteThank you for being such an important part of our project, Michael. You'd make a terrific broad... but you're gonna have to shave those legs.
LOL.... Well Susan, I know some old broads who don;t shave their legs anymore... so why bother. LOL.
DeleteLove your old broad story. I hope I still have energy if I reach 80. I'm sending for that book.
ReplyDeleteGreat! Thanks, Susan!
DeleteThanks for teaming up with a bunch of fantastic old broads and producing such a great cover. I like your favorite old broad, too :)
ReplyDeleteI love it and the cover is fabulous. I would be delighted to read your old broad stories. Helping out a worthy cause while being entertained. Sounds like a win-win to me.
ReplyDeleteIt certainly is, Melissa. THANKS!
DeleteMichael I'm trying to picture you in a granny dress. Nope, the hairy legs and arms just ruin the image, lol. Still if you post the picture I'll enjoy it :)
ReplyDeleteBeautiful cover, and what a lovely sentiment for an anthology. Great charity.
Have a good weekend Michael. And congrats to all the authors and participants to this collective works.
You are so bad, Donna. LOL... I did drag only once in my first year of college.... for a student class pic... It was mandatory. lol. Five guys hit on me, and three girls left the class hysterical crying... I was quite the stunner. LOL.... Those were in my modeling days when I was thin and androgynous looking.
DeleteHi Michael .. I think your cover is just wonderful - and particularly appropriate for these broads - it looks a great collaboration and I'm so pleased they asked you to join them as an honorary broad with hairy arms ...
ReplyDeleteGood luck with all your projects and for being there for Melissa ... Hilary
Thanks so much, Hillary.
DeleteWell, I don't know, I am an old broad and probably, at 76, older than most of you. Sounds like a worthwhile project
ReplyDeleteThis is great! I'm a broad, but I don't like the word "old," even though I'm 43 and not so young anymore. I've already seen one post from this today. Look forward to reading more!
ReplyDeleteI love the term 'broad'. Hope this book goes like a bomb. Enjoyed reading about the old broad today.
ReplyDeleteAn honorary old broad eh Michael?
Hope the writing goes well...
Denise
Love this cover and I'm so excited for Julie and Susan and the rest of the broads. :) Funny that you are an honorary broad, Michael.
ReplyDeleteI bet you never thought you'd be an old broad! :)
ReplyDeleteWhat a fun idea and such a cool cover.
Awesome cover! And I just chuckle every time I see the word "broad." Is it still considered not-so-PC these days?
ReplyDeleteOh this looks fantastic! Thank you so much for sharing.

Yarg, Michael -- our blogs are NOT getting along. Yours keeps eating my comments & then spitting them out later, so, at the risk of a double...
ReplyDeleteGreat cover! And with Susan as a ringleader, this book has to be hilarious.
The old broad I've been thinking of with much resepct lately (though I never thought of her as old) is Joan Rivers. There will never be anyone else like her.
Michael, you are always part of the coolest groups doing the coolest things hanging out with the coolest people. These "old broads" are lucky to have you! I've never met someone as diversely talented as you. I LOVE the cover (of course!) and I'm sure the poems and writing shared inside is exquisite! How fun---all of this. :)
ReplyDeleteOh how nifty! I love it. And what an excellent cover Michael. It's simply wonderful!
ReplyDeleteAmazing! I am still thrilled all the effort all of you have put into this to raise money for a charity. The cover is wonderful!
ReplyDeleteWhat an awesome idea
ReplyDelete...and I just love that cover!
ReplyDeleteMichael, you've hit the ball CLEAN out of the park with this cover!! Excellent!
ReplyDeleteI can't wait to read this one.
