REFLECTIONS IN RUBY... A SPARKLING POST...

Hi, Everyone...

Welcome to my reflections post. This year was the second year I created original intros for new books, featuring all of you.

I must say the talent in our community is frightening! Not to mention the diversity. This year I tried to feature a full range of books from m/g to adult as well as interesting pics like cookbooks and writer's tool books. I had a challenging month. Keeping up with all of you.

Quality of writing is so important to me. SO featuring any of your books is something I take very seriously. What I love most about this theme is that for a brief moment I get to write in genres and about topics I would never dream of writing about. How cool is that... Imagine taking the day off and writing something completely foreign to your style or subject...I did if for 26 days! And loved every minute.

It was also a bit of struggle though. As many of you know I had some issues with my sight and just before the challenge I had to have surgery. It was a frightening time for me. But you were all there for me with you prayers, positive thoughts, and reassurances that all would be well and that I would get through the challenge.

I worried that I wouldn't. But that was fine with all of you, too! That alone kept me plugging along. Your faith in me helped me complete the challenge. Thank you.

The highlight for me was when I posted the only non published book. My own. Your comments were mind-blowing. ALL of you wanting to read more and telling me to get moving and get that publisher. It meant the world to me. It's sometimes frustrating for me to see my blogger friends moving forward with agents, publishers, successful books, and NO ONE is happier for you than me. It thrills me to see you succeed. And after four long years of writing, I hope to join you. I just finished what I hope to be the final edit on my novel. Now the querying begins.

I had intended to submit to the publisher that had some interest, but decided my novel is not right for them. For this particular novel I'd like an agent. So if any of you can recommend a good agent who is looking for EDGY Y/A please drop me a line. I have a list compiled already, but you may know just the right agent for this property.

Many of you may not know that since last year my theme carried me into a new business venture for writing blurbs, intros, and creative editing. It also led me to designing book covers, too. So it's amazing where the A-Z can take us. So many of you are publishing your themes from this challenge. FANTASTIC. Congratulations. I know I've done some of my best work in this challenge and so have you!

Thank you LEE... Without him, this never would have happened.

So to sum it up... This challenge has so much to offer...to both Poster and Reader! And a thumbs up to the wonderful bloggers who spent so much time to make this year such a success! To the hosts and their minions... WELL DONE.... YOU GUYS ARE AWESOME...

And now, in the spirit of the A-Z, I will proceed to Dazzle you..

Entrance you...

or shall I dare say Seduce you...

With the glints of ruby, the curling of a swirl of smoke, or the flick of a lacy wing.

Nothing is more beautiful than the sparkle and power of these magnificent creatures. Forever blinding, like opals on fire.

Creatures so content to rest on the smoldering ashes of a once great kingdom...

Creatures as old as time...

But, there is one.

A single soul with the intent to rebuild a lost empire...

A DRAGON'S LAMENT

You showcased so many awesome books during April!
I enjoyed every post!
Good luck with finding the correct publisher, Michael!
... and River's cover is magnificent!

Thank you so much for highlighting my book, Michael! I'm thrilled. :)
I'm so very glad the surgery worked out for you! Eyesight is precious, even more so when one depends on it for their very creativity and livelihood!
Your A to Z theme rocked and you have a real flair for writing intros!

Your theme last year and this one was so generous, helpful and creative, I'm sure it won you many fans. I admire you for all that you do for the writing and blogging community.

This cover has to be my favorite. The best for River!
Your theme was amazing because of your unique way to introduce books, I think. Good luck in finding that agent you wish. Hope to hear about your book finding the right publisher soon.

L. Diane Wolfe said...

Loved your theme. I know some YA publishers, but not edgy ones I'm afraid.

Good Luck to River with her latest! Another intro to draw readers in, Michael, well done.
Sometimes that push we need is someone else's faith in us.

Sorry to hear about your surgery and sight problems. It sounds like you're doing much better now? I'm glad I met you during the challenge and look forward to reading about you landing an agent and getting a book deal very soon!

Congrats to River!

Good luck with querying. I've been out of the YA query trenches for a while, so I don't have anyone to recommend. Sorry.

Roland D. Yeomans said...

Those trenches are hard, Michael. Like Connie, I have been out of them for awhile. The publishing world has changed. Have you thought of self-publishing? You would be great at self-marketing. Just a thought.

Loni Townsend said...

River's covers are gorgeous!

I don't know anything about agents, so unfortunately I can't give any recommendations. But I hope you find someone who works out well for you! Can't wait to see your book go live. :)

Your day will come, Michael. And I'll be cheering for you when it does. (And posting promo for you! LOL) :D

Have you tried: http://querytracker.net/literary_agents.php ?

Congratulations and I'm so pleased your eyes passed muster and I hope are fully recovered now .. good luck with that publisher/agent .. cheers Hilary

Oh no! I didn't get to catch up with all of your A to Z posts (yet) and now I'm more eager to go looking for yours. I sure missed it :(

Your A to Z theme is awesome and you're very talented so good luck with this new adventure. :)

Hi Michael,

I missed out on so many A to Z posts, but I'm determined to come back around and catch some of them - especially your post about your novel.

You are such a talented guy and you continue to amaze me with your ability to jump into any genre and create wonderful introductions to other people's books. I hope your eye surgery went very well and that you are completely recovered.

It only takes one yes to set you on the road. Here's to finding the right person to say that word.

I've already said this, but I'll say it again. I loved your 2014 theme.

Carol Riggs said...

Oooo, definitely a stunning cover, and a great and mysterious and lyrical intro. Great job. And BEST WISHES for your querying process. You'll get there--you'll see! (I know though, it is hard to see everyone around you landing agents and contracts while you're still in-process). Keep plugging away!

Jo said...

Wishing you the very best at finding just the right agent for you. I gather it isn't easy. I enjoyed your personal blurbs and they made me want to read a lot of the books even though I have a TBR pile of over 500 ebooks.

Cathrina Constantine said...

What a phenomenal cover for River! Michael, I pray your eyes are doing well now. The querying process is so disturbing and depressing, YET, when I read your book excerpt, I was blown away. I'm repeating myself when I say you have such a special gift of words!! I don't believe you'll have any trouble finding an agent for your novel.

Michael Di Gesu said...

Thank you, Cathrina. I really appreciate your kind words!

Michael Di Gesu said...

Thank you, Jo.
Glad you enjoyed the intros... And yes it is a difficult process finding just the right agent.

Michael Di Gesu said...

Thanks, Carol.

You know I will...

Michael Di Gesu said...

Thanks, Tyrean...

The eyes are almost there. Still a bit irritated from time to time, but that's because of the wind and spring pollens in Chicago at the moment...

Michael Di Gesu said...

Hi, Sk...

Mine was the letter P....

Thanks, glad you enjoyed the theme and intros!

Michael Di Gesu said...

Thanks so much, Hilary...

Michael Di Gesu said...

Looking forward to that day for sure!

Thanks, Melissa!

Michael Di Gesu said...

Thanks, Loni...

Me, either. LOL.

Michael Di Gesu said...

I just don' t have the time to self publish... I wish I did...

Thanks, Roland.

Michael Di Gesu said...

Thanks, Connie,

I can use all the luck I can get. It really isn't about talent these days.... it's timing...

Michael Di Gesu said...

Likewise, Stephanie. Thank you.

The old eyes are definitely better. LOL.

Michael Di Gesu said...

So true,

Thanks, D. G.

Michael Di Gesu said...

Thanks anyway, L. Diane. I appreciate it...

Keep plugging away Michael. It's a struggle but there are so many tales of authors who submitted and submitted until they finally got their big breakthrough.

mshatch said...

I know how you feel Michael. My first book might be out but getting it noticed is a whole other ballgame. And I still want an agent! Query land is looming now that I've completed draft #1 of my latest, maybe we can jump in the trenches together :)

Gorgeous cover, btw!

Denise Covey said...

Woah River's cover is magical! Dazzles my eyes!
You did a wonderful job, Michael. I'm sure many book sales were the result of your great blurbs and cover reveals. Your time is coming. I'm sorry I missed the post on ex-BG, but I will scroll down and find it. I'm hoping very soon you find an agent who will take you on. Funny how life works, thought. No doubt it'll happen when you least expect it, so don't lose faith. I hope some of your authors can hook you up.

Have a great weekend, and thanks for visiting Ella's post and leaving such a thoughtful comment.

You have a lovely blog, I love the layout. This cover is great!

Hey Michael,

I hope the quality of my comment is bordering on mildly acceptable :)

Good sir, you have gone through some health concerns. May the clarity you have been a continuance in more ways than one..

Your selfless altruism is greatly admired. A noble asset to your personality. Despite my loathing of the A to Z which hijacks the blogging world, kudos and respect to you.

May your dream become a wondrous reality.

Thank you for sharing River's latest book. I promise my comment wont dragon...

A peaceful, hopeful rest of your Sunday.

Gary :)

You are as talented as you are generous, Michael! You did an awesome job with your intros. I don't know how you do it. Best of luck finding an agent! I don't have much experience with that. I see the agent/ writer relationship like a marriage and I am commitment phobic.

Karen Jones Gowen said...

Michael, I'm glad your surgery went well. I missed so many of your A to Z posts, it's such a hectic month, isn't it? But I am in awe of how you were able to keep up with it. Good luck with your own book!

Trisha said...

River's cover is so stunning.

I think you did an amazing job during the challenge, Michael - you clearly put a whole lot of time, energy and thought into each of your posts, and they came off so well. Good job!!

And I'm glad your surgery went well. Sight is something a lot of us take for granted and it's one of the scariest thoughts, having trouble with it.

Good luck with the queries, my friend! I just know your time is coming. :D

P.S. I love the new picture. Perfect for summer!
