I WAS HIT BY A CYCLIST YESTERDAY... BASHED UP, BUT OKAY....

Hi everyone,

Sorry to post this, but I was hit by a cyclist  on the lakefront yesterday.... should've stayed with Tammy! lol.

I have a broken wrist ...left thankfully... 13 stitches in my forehead, Gotta keep up with Harry Potter, right? abrasions all over.... but thank God no swelling in my brain... so i can still write and draw! I guess my guardian angel was on a break. But she did send a medical student to my rescue... he found me... another earthly angel who  i don't even know.....

I am praying  I don't need surgery ... my insurance only covers so much. But the cyclist has insurance an hopefully it will pay my bills. the splint may be enough... it was a clean break ....

I wanted all of you to know,  I may not be as visible around the blogosphere.... but i'll try... going crazy already...i am not the laying around type....

Take care everyone!

I am hoping to finish my entry for write... edit.... publish... i have half of it done ... so I may be able to finish it....

Ugh, sorry to hear that Michael and glad it's only minor injuries.

I hope it all works out for you.

Hey, no laying around, though....your right hand still works, so keep writing! :)

Michael, that's terrible! Glad it wasn't worse. Hope his insurance covers everything. Just take it easy. And sending prayers your way.

Maybe your guardian angel was there by reducing the injuries or keeping a car from hitting you! Hope you get better very soon. But use that relaxing and healing time to stir up those creative juices more! Writer’s Mark

Poor Michael. So sorry this had to happen. It's dangerous trying to get fit! I don't understand how a cyclist can't see a person in front of them.

Hope it all goes well and btw - everything can wait until you're better. Hang in there.

Seriously crazy! So glad you weren't injured more permanently. You need a break from trials! Hope you can rest up. If you lived closer, I'd come bring you soup!

Oh no! I'm glad it wasn't worse, but it must be pretty awful anyway! Take it easy, anyway, and I hope you get better soon :)

Hey Michael,

Wow, dude, that's some crazy news... the biker must have been motoring to cause all that damage.

Also sending you prayers for a speedy and full recovery - and *perhaps* with this extra downtime, your uninjured Muse will report for extended duty.

Take care, my friend!

Oh no! I'm glad you're not hurt any worse than you are -- it sounds like you have plenty of injuries as it is!

You don't hear about cyclists hitting people often, but my daughter actually had a close call in London last week. We were crossing an intersection, in a pedestrian crosswalk, while the green light was on for walkers and all cars were stopped at a red light. Gina was just walking in front of a stopped bus when a cyclist shot out from the other side, running the red light and passing about two feet in front of my 13 year old daughter. A couple seconds later and he would have hit her going pretty fast. Because of the bus, they would never have seen each other.

He didn't stop of course. Never even looked back. :(

Sorry to hear about the accident. Just take it easy and I hope you feel a bit better soon, as I know the wrist might take a few weeks to heal. Enjoy the downtime.

...so very sorry to read up on your accident, Michael.

Having grown up in and around athletics, I've learned that wrist injuries can be frustrating to rehabilitate. Be patient, my friend, and rest up.

I'm so sorry again about this, Michael. I still can't believe a bike could hurt you this badly, so awful. Take care and try not to go crazy laying around while you recuperate. :)

Sounds more like you were hit by a truck! Gads, dude! Give that broken wrist plenty of rest time to heal; wrists and ankles can take forever to mend.

Sending lots of caring hugs and best wishes for a speedy and complete recovery.

Oh how awful, Michael! I'm so sorry! If only my transporter was working I could bring you a fresh blackberry smoothie. Take it easy and let yourself rest!

Hi Michael, I think your guardian angel was watching over you -- could have been a lot worse for sure! Those cyclists can hit with a mighty bang. I hope there's no complications and that you will heal quickly as you have so much work to do!

You must be hurting. The third day is the worst. Great that the cyclist stayed and had insurance. I was once hit by a car at night on my bicycle, and the driver left me with squealing tires!

Listen to the doctor and do what he says. Jeeez! 13 stitches!! Alice wants to make a trip to Chicago to add cyclists to her diet! :-)

So sorry Mark, but you must have had a guardian angel watching over you -cuts and breaks can heal, a head injury would have been so much worse.
Appreciating our NHS over here even more today, my recovery is tough enough without having to worry about the financial implications!
Prayers for a swift recovery xx

I was just reading on another blogger in Chicago's blog about a biker's aggressive behavior! Not that it's just in Chicago by any means- we have plenty of that here and I complain about it ALL THE TIME! I hate hiking and having bikers barreling down the hill, "on your right" just as they fly by, the sign saying "pedestrians have the right of way" on the right hand of the path of course, blithely ignoring the signage. And this is what happens. People (like you!) get hurt. Take care of yourself and make sure that hand heals properly. Cheers!!

Hi Michael .. I've been away - so am just catching up .. gosh - what a shock and horrid thing to happen.

As you say thank goodness it's no worse ... however as Elise says - be sensible over your recovery time .. a few days/time of extra relaxation now will help in the days ahead ...

Any injury must be so difficult for you to deal with .. but I know your strength will pull you through ...

Let your brain do the wandering - buy a tape recorder and jot your notes down that way .. perhaps? Saving your arm ...

Look after yourself - just such a pain ... I'll be and am thinking of you ... Hilary

Dear Michael,
I don't know what I was doing this day, but I was not having fun or blogging.

I regret that I did not keep up with your blog this summer and could have sent good wishes to you when it happened. Some days I have just had so much to do that I haven't been able to visit anyone's blog.

I am so sorry that you were injured like this, but thankful that you seem to be on the mend now when I am writing this.

My son, Erik, fell at school about a year and half ago and suffered a concussion too. He had some memory loss when it happened, and had trouble concentrating afterwards. So I am familiar with some of the after affects. But since I am writing this long afterwards, I know you haven't lost your touch.

But what a scare it must have been! You have been very brave.

Best wishes & hugs,
Anna
