A COUPLE OF NEWSWORTHY EVENTS ...

Hi, All,

I hope your week is going well. I had spent some time yesterday surfing the blogosphere and catching up on some news ...

Several post/articles caught my attention on several different levels.

I had stopped by Janet Reid's blog. She had posted about the the candidate for the US senate in Missouri and his UNBELIEVABLE statement about "real rape." Now as you all know, I keep my blog VERY positive, but reading this post and hearing about it on the news while working out last night, makes me positive this candidate is not right! So drop over to Janet's blog for the post here.  You will be outraged too!

On a much more "writerly" note, Writer's Digest and Guide to Literary Agents' Chuck Sambuchino are hosting the "DEAR LUCKY AGENT" contest, now through Aug. 27th, so you still have plenty of time to enter. SO all you M/G writers get your ms's polished and shoot over your first 150-200 words of your finished book-length manuscript along with a one-sentence logline.

There are a few things you need to do as well. You must mention this contest in two media's or one media and hop over to Amazon and like Chuck's newest humor book ... This contest is well worth the effort so get right to it M/G writers. For entry click here and get whisked away GLA.

Now for a healthier note... As most of you know, I am a health and exercise nut, Equinox Gym sent this article in my inbox yesterday, so I thought I would share it with all of you.

Eat Like an Athlete by Elmear Lynch is about  swimmer, Olympic gold medalist,  Garrett Weber Gale. He shares his secrets to keep in shape. Ten easy do's and don'ts.... He has some great tips, so check it out here if you get healthy and stay that way, especially with summer winding down and clothes covering more of us, we need to be well aware of how the pounds can SLOWLY creep up on us. Remember the holidays are just around the corner and most Americans put on five to ten pounds of unwanted weight.

Also stay tuned for workout tips on how to keep moving with easy winter exercises to stay in shape when the temps drop.

Have a great day everyone!

Hi Michael. Thanks for the link. I was outraged at that man's ignorant, thoughtless comment and I was all a rage about it on Facebook.

THanks for the article and I look forward to more health tips. I have been seriously overweight my whole life and over the last five years I have managed to lose at this last count (Yay) 103 pounds. I still have more to go, but am really trying to stay positive and keep going. I am learning to eat differently and think of food differently. I used to (and still do on occasion :() use food as a comfort. But I have gotten so much better about it. Don't know why I'm blabbing all this in a comment, but I'm feeling good right now and I'm sharing. :)

Great stuff going on! Aside from that political stuff. I have to hop over to Janet's blog to check it out. WOW. Positively NOT RIGHT, indeed!

Going to be needing your health tips real soon brother dear. I fear the weight gaining is going to be a direct result of an upcoming change in my lifestyle and I am going to need all the help and support you can give me...hint...hint...

Lots of great info and links here, Michael, thank you. I'll just pop on over here from now on to get all my news :) And I'm definitely intrigued by Lynch's article. I'm a Gluten-free gal myself and am very interested in nutrition and facts and all that fun stuff. Thanks!

Healthy eating and exercise motivation is something we writers can always use!

Awww...he says don't eat too much cheese (now I'm downhearted - but I know he's correct). Thanks for the link. I'm still in shock about what that politician said - is he nuts?

Ciara said...

I need some eating tips. I'm usually extremely healthy, but lately I've been slipping. I need to refocus.

That senator was unbelievable. I could not believe what I heard. Thanks for the workout tips!

Hey Michael,

After reading the comments, I can sense a healthy post in your near future :)

Looking forward to your healthy tips! I'm finally getting back to my hiking routine. Feels good.

That senator needs a serious alteration of their perception. That is all I will say so I don't get worked up.

Yay for the Lucky Agent contests! I love those!

That candidate's comments are amazing, in the worst sense. It's hard to believe he actually said what he did.

Thanks for the other great links, though. :)

It's great to see you back and active around the blogosphere. :) Thanks for the information!

Every time I think my story idea or bit of fictional dialogue is too kooky, some real life idiot comes along and opens his/her mouth, proving that nothing I could make up is too ridiculous.

Thanks for the all the info. You're not kidding about the pounds creeping up. I'm trying to get rid of some of mine these days.

Michael, thank you for posting the link from Janet Reid. I just left a comment there.

And thanks for reminding me about the Dear Lucky Agent contest.

I am very bad when it comes to physical fitness. Oh well, at least I have stairs that I have to walk up and down several times a day.

Last year my goal was to keep my "winter' weight under a certain poundage. This year my goal has dropped by 5lbs. I'm thinking of joining the Y for the winter, to make sure I stick to it!

Luckily it's still winter here so I can cover up those pesky little extra kilos I brought home with my from Fiji. All that starchy food, gulp. And no good running tracks. Was a bit dangerous trying to run along potholed dirt roads and far too hot!

Denise, now you know how it is jogging in Louisiana! Arrrrgh!

We must all pay attention to our bodies. We can move to new homes but not to new bodies! LOL.

BB, you are SO hilarious! "I'm positive this candidate is not right." LOL! That statement's true on SO many levels... :D Thankfully, I've missed most of that being buried in work. :p

Very cool contest, and I'll see what Lynch has to say! I'm also a runner--Roland's comment up there has me sniggling since I'm also a La. native--but it's fun to see what folks are discovering.

Have a super week/weekend!

I should visit here every day to stay motivated. Writing is the worst job ever for staying healthy.

Thanks for the info, Michael. I especially like your health reminder. The past few weeks, I have been eating horribly and...I feel horrible. Time to get some fresh fruits and veggies back in the house and get the weights out. I love how healthy you are. You're an inspiration.

When I was on the swim team, it was easy to keep in shape. My hair was a mess though.

I work out most afternoons. Helps with stress and writing.

I saw a LOT of people on twitter talking about that insane comment - what a total twit! Can't believe he was running for political office - I would hope the fuss pushed him out by now!

Michael!!! What's up, brother? I've been such a bad blogger. :( been crazy this summer. I just saw our pic on a previous post, so that was fun. Yay for blogger buddies!
Now my kids are in school I'll be a much better one.
It's hard not to voice opinions on politics. I find myself resisting the urge to bash the republican party on facebook... oops did i just write that?

Unknown said...

So? I let myself into your place again and like a ninja I creep around here with a secret plan. Your fridge is a dead give away my friend and do not try to blame someone else. LOL! Happy Friday! Go ahead and indulge, it is the week-end :)

Thanks for the heads up Michael. re: Health nut
Did you know that learning to play a musical instrument exercises the mind more than any brain teasers or other such intellectual activity, apparently.
I'd love to learn the harp.

There must have been a typo in Lynch's article: he said to put down the cheese. That CAN'T be right!

I was outraged by that Rep's comment too. Disgusting.

You have inspired me to exercise more; but I will NEVER give up the Ruffles!

Have a great weekend Michael.

Hi Michael! That story about the politician made its way across the ocean to London. I listened in disbelief - is he on crack? Please say he is! What the hell?

The republican who was talking about "legitimate rape" is only saying what many republicans think though they won't say it. The war on women continues!

Looking forward to the exercise tips!
