INSECURITY AND THE A-Z

Happy first Wednesday of the month all. As you know today we have our Insecure Writer's post to do, but since we also have A-Z, it is really a challenge. And no, I am not insecure about it. LOL.

It's not much of a riddle today, but I did weave in the letter D at the climax of the excerpt. I hope you enjoy it.

While scribbling on iridescent parchment, a tiny fairy tucks a lose strand of shimmering purple hair behind her pointed ear. Emerald eyes with dancing hues of gold, race across the page.
She dots the last I and gently folds the parchment into three equal parts. She raises her head as a turquoise and fuchsia hummingbird lands on her extended finger.
Placing the letter in the bird’s open beak, her heart skips a beat. “Thank you, Chelsea. Wish me luck.”
The bird winks a keen eye and takes flight.
“Now the waiting begins.” She stares at a large stack of the same iridescent parchment and sighs. “They’ll like it ... right?” She nods.
At that moment several streaks of brightly colored fairy dust head toward her: sapphire, ruby, and daffodil.
Three fairies land next to her, each raising a brow.
“How come you weren’t at the assembly this morning, Amethyst?” a stern voice said.
She flushes purple and looks up at the tall male fairy. “I had an important letter to send out, Rube.”
“What sort of letter?” the blue fairy asks.
She glances at the stack of parchment and then to the fairy. “You wouldn’t understand Saphy.”
“Try us, Amee,” the yellow fairy says.
“I don’t know Daff.”
“Answer her. I am sure we’d all like to know what was so important that you missed the assembly,” Rube says.
Standing tall she faces all three fairies, looks each one in the eye, takes a deep breath, and opens her mouth slightly.
“Well if you must know, I sent a query letter out to a literary agent. I wrote a novel and I am looking for representation.”
The two female fairies snigger. Rube face burns red.
“Are you serious? You are already walking a fine line by missing the assembly. And for what? A silly dream.” Rube’s red eyes fire into Amee’s purple ones.
She sees her frightened expression reflected. Shaking her head, she pinpricks the corners of her eyes.
“My dream isn’t silly. Writing is part of my soul. I will never give it up, so don’t ask me to do so.”
Rube’s untwists his brows and raises them. He clears his throat. “You must be quite determined to stand up to me and the council?”
Amee nods.
“Very well. If you follow this path, it is a path you take alone.” He turns and takes flight.
Amee turns to the two remaining fairies. “Can either of you understand?”
The two fairies face each other and then gaze upon Amee.
“Good luck, Amee. I may not understand, but I respect your choice,” Saphy said. She hugs Amee and flies away.
Daff steps over to Amee and hugs her too. “Well, see you around. I hope.”
Only specs of yellow fairy dust remain after she takes flight.
“I knew they wouldn’t understand. It is my road to take and alone if I must. I wonder if there are other fairies like me?” She steps over to her quill and ink and begins to write.

Today's D word is DETERMINATION.... NEVER GIVE  UP on your dream...

Have a wonderful day everyone and see you tomorrow.

Always lovely reading something magical that you've written, Michael. Determination. It is what separates the dreamers from the do-ers, right?

Great piece you wrote for Denise today. Have magic in each moment of today, Roland

Hello Michael!

A fellow A-to-zer here -- thank you for visiting and commenting on my blog. I wanted to repay the visit.

This was a fun post. I liked your determined fairy -- I'm absolutely positive that Saph, Daff, and Rube will be singing a different tune when Amee gets published!

Looking forward to the rest of your alphabet!

Absolutely beautiful. I can still see the trail of fairy dust.

Some people call me stubborn. I think I'm determined.
