Something scurries, moving its head from side-to-side. The morning light reflects off an armor-like shell. It stops. A wet snout raises toward the warmth of the sun as orange eyes close for an instant and pop back open.
A moment later, it leaps onto a sparkling granite rock. A reptilian body stands on it’s scaly hind legs and once more its head turns, scoping the horizon.
“Mi, Mi, Mi, Mi ...” It spits and clears its throat. “Good day, humans.” He cups his delicate fingers to the side of his head. “I know my presence is a shock, especially before your liquid fuel. But I do insist on proper manners. I repeat. Good day, humans.”
He cups his ear again. “Well, if that’s the best you can do.”
A slim volume appears between his elongated fingers. The cover features a bright field of sunflowers against a vivid blue sky. The type blazes red, as hot as any poppy.
“I have watched your kind blunder through your hum-drum lives for far too long and accomplish very little, by my standards, of course. But today, I am not here to chastise you on your archaic politics, world pollution, or your INSANE obsession with nuclear arms. I wish to bring to your attention the inferior education and lack of proper schools to stretch the minds and talents of special needs children. THIS is a worthy topic.
“Sadly, it has come to my attention that one of these special kids needs your help. I was touched by the tenderness of a special dad, so special in fact, the child isn’t even his biological son. LEARN from this humans! This selfless and heartfelt act of love should exemplified.
“You humans have survived for millennia even in the gravest of situations.”
He lifts the book. The cover faces outward as he turns from side-to-side.
“This extraordinary book features 70 such stories.
"YOU WILL buy it ...
"YOU WILL tell your friends ...
"YOU WILL, help this family Overcome their Adversity ...”
He takes a deep breath.
“Naturally, you don’t have to do as I ask. However, do you really want me and my kind to slither into your house and MAKE YOU?!”
He clears his throat and grins sheepishly.
“I didn’t think so.”
The volume disappears as mysteriously as it had appeared.
“You may go. But remember ...
He sucks in a long breath and lets it out slowly.
"I will know...
"Good day, humans.”
“I’m watching... why aren’t you clinking onto those links!”
Overcoming Adversity, An Anthology for Andrew, edited by Nick Wilford
Amazon: Link
Thank goodness I already have my copy. I certainly wouldn’t want THAT crawling into my house. Would you? That’s one scary creature, but in his defense, he is right.
This anthology was created for Nick’s step son so he may be able to go to a special school outside Nick’s area. It’s for an excellent cause and the anthology is a special collection of life changing stories. You won’t be disappointed.
Please drop by Nicks blog and show him blogger love. Thanks everyone and have a wonderful day!

Great intro to this book. You had me hooked when he was talking to humans. This sounds like a great book and it's for such a great cause.
A fab intro to such a great book. What Nick has done for his stepson is extraordinary and should touch everyone's heart.
So glad I could help by contributing to this great cause. It's on my Kindle and on my shelf as a paperback.

Well, heck. Now I'm sitting here with my feet pulled up, afraid of what's slithering on my floor. Luckily, I meant to buy Nick's book so this is just reminding me to get to it.
LOL. Yes, no telling who is watching us when we think we are unobserved!
I already bought my copy and have given three copies away as well.
May Andrew's dream for his son come true! :-)
Have my copy. Great book to promote.
I've got my copy too. Love this book and all the love Andrew poured into it.
These make excellent gifts!! Better (and in many cases) cheaper than a get well card!
Just excellent!
For an excellent book with an excellent cause.
Great job (once again!) Michael and I can, wholeheartedly, endorse this book.
Some great stories for a great cause. I've been going through my copy and finding it very entertaining :)
Great choice for O.
Bought it and read it! Some great pieces in here.
Got my copy too!!
Throws both hands up in surrender! I do not want a visit from the orange guy.
I still need to get my copy. *sighs*
But I'm proud that I had the opportunity to be a part of this amazing project!

That mi mi mi sounded familiar. Maybe long distance cousin who can actually sing.
That book is so special to me for many reasons. Nick is awesome. I admire his courage.
LOL! Sooooooo clever and so much fun!!! I better get myself a copy!
:D
Wow, thank you, Michael! Sorry I'm here late. I'm touched by your kindness in writing this. And can I adopt that reptile guy... he could do all my PR for me!! :)
Thanks again!
Great intro, and very clever! I've put it in my wishlist. :)

You sold me! Since moving to Atlanta, I've seen far more creepy crawlies than any one human has a right to. They're all big and they all bite, and I'll do whatever I have to do to avoid them.
Want to know a secret, though? I'd buy this anthology even if I still lived in California. I'm off to Amazon ...again. :)

What a great publicist that little reptile is. Fun intro! :)And great book to feature. Love it.
This is a great book of stories and I hope Nick's stepson benefits from it..I, too, was delighted when Nick included my story and further shocked when I saw it was the first one in the book.
Great presentation as usual Michael. I'd be weely, weely skeered if I hadn't already bought it!!!
Denise
Beautiful intro and I was so honored to be a part of this. Nick is doing a wonderful thing for his stepson and for people who don't often have a voice.
Ooh, I've got this one! Wish it was in paperback though- I'm still not used to the whole e-reader thing...
Hi Michael .. thanks so much for highlighting Nick's book and I'm so pleased he's got a few more sales ...
I bought a few and gave them away - now need to buy some more to help Andrew ..
PS I've emailed Deniz - the book is available in paperback now on Amazon ...
Cheers Hilary
